Android is one of the most used smartphone OS(Operating System).

Android is no more restricted to smartphones it expands to wearable device and electronics now. Example: The Google Glass, which runs on the Android Ice cream sandwich OS.

Android means a "humanoid robot" which give answer to queries.

Android was developed in 2003 by the company Android Inc. shaped by Andy Rubin. Initially Android was not an open source.

Android Inc. initial idea was to create Android OS for digital cameras and use App in it. But they changed their focus to smartphones because of the less use of digital cameras.

Later Android Inc. was acquired by Google in 2005 and made Android as open source. when Google bought Android, Google spokesman said "we acquired Android because of the talented Engineers and great technology ".

Android logo was designed by Irina Blok for Google in 2007.The inspiration for the logo is the human symbol on restroom doors which was modified into the shape of a robot.

HTC Dream(T-Mobile G1) is the first Android smartphone. It run in Android 1.6, Donut version.

Google release its own mobile phone in 2010, although it made by HTC. But the Google Nexus one wasn't so well received.

Android is now available in 46 languages.
